Digital Help Desk for female journalists set up as digital security workshop concludes

Islamabad - 21 August 2015: A digital safety Helpdesk to assist female journalists in media dealing with issues of digital security or online harassment has been set up at local media development organisation, Media
Matters for Democracy, MMfD, in Islamabad. The creation of digital security help desk has followed the conclusion of a series of two digital safety workshops, "Connected and Safe", organized by MMfD in collaboration with UNESCO Islamabad. 30 female journalists and bloggers from different print and electronic media participated in the training workshop.

The workshop aimed at empowering female journalists in media to enjoy the benefits of technology without making themselves vulnerable to digital threats. The participants of the workshops were imparted both technological and behavioural solutions to counter digital threats and they also discussed the gender politics of digital behaviours and shared stories about their own experiences online.

UNESCO is the key UN agency that works on the issues of Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, fostering media pluralism, Freedom of Expression and Press Freedom.
