International Seminar on Human Rights, Culture of Peace and Tolerance in an Era of Extremism

University of Gujrat organized an International Seminar on "Human Rights Culture of Peace & Tolerance in the Era of Extremism" in collaboration with UNESCO Islamabad and
International Peace Bureau, on January 24, 2012. Educationists, Scholars, political leaders and other speakers from civil society participated in the Seminar. Speakers expressed their views on the importance of peace and shared ideas on promoting a culture of peace and tolerance. Speakers included Ingeborg Bernies (co-president IPB and former Country Director of UNESCO Islamabad), Khuram Dastgeer (MNA), Asim Sajjaad (Lecturer QAU), Qamar Zaman Qaira (MNA), Hussain Naqi (Journalist), Mollana Madni(religious scholar), Shabir Hussain (Director UOG).

Dr. Kozue Kay Nagata, Country Director/Representative UNESCO Islamabad attended the Seminar as the Guest Speaker. "Promotion of a culture of peace is the expression of UNESCO’s fundamental mandate, manifested in its education programme as well as across the programmes.", said Dr. Nagata in her address. She assured UNESCO’s full support and commitment in initiatives from partners for the promotion of human rights, peace, justice and tolerance.

Seminar was followed by a visit to Art and Fashion Design Department, where projects of students were displayed and animated. In the end students from various departments presented a peace performance and Sufi Dance.
