EFA Coordination & Monitoring

1) Policy Advocacy

For this purpose, main activities are supporting the government higher officials to participate the EFA global and regional meetings, and supporting the government to organize the round table meetings on thematic issues on EFA in an effort to develop the national education policy review. In addition to those, UNESCO supported NGOs and other partners to organize policy advocacy seminars on EFA.

2) Capacity building of government officials on Education statistics and monitoring


The National Education Census was conducted in Pakistan for the 1st time. UNESCO technically supported MOE and the Federal Statistics Bureau to carry this out. Under the leadership of MOE, UNICEF and UNESCO promote to develop the EFA Mid Decade Assessment with involving the officials and partners of provinces and areas. Moreover, in order to build the capacity of the government officials in education data and indicators there was the training workshop conducted by MOE with support of UIS. UIS seeks the possibility to support MOE to develop the EMIS software to capture and analyze the data.

 

3) Capacity building of district officials on Education planning and management


In the cooperation with AEPAM, MOE, 8 training modules for education managers at various levels were developed.
Education Management, Education Programme/Programme Management, Academic Management, School Management & Supervision, Office Management, Financial Management, Community Participation, Human Resource Development.
A training workshop will held on March 2007 for the master trainers, which is followed with district training workshops at provincial and district levels. Both training workshops has focused on the education planning and community participation.

 

EFA Events

Consutlation with Parliamentarians EDUCATION FOR ALL IN PAKISTAN

Parliamentarians can play a key role in the formulation and enforcement of policies and reforms for socio-economic development in a society. UNESCO has been working with the parliamentarians at national and international levels, to mobilize their support for the achievement of Education For All goals.
On 29 January 2009, UNESCO Islamabad, in collaboration with PILDAT, organized a Consultation with the Parliamentarians on EFA. More
 

EFA Week (23-29 April 2007):

The theme of the EFA week was focused on teachers with the slogan "Every Child Needs A Teacher". With the support of UNESCO Islamabad, Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU). organized the events for the EFA Week in all over the country.
On the occasion of Global Action Week, 23-29 April 2007, an EFA Walk was organized by the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU), Islamabad in collaboration with Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad and UNESCO Office, Islamabad.
 
An award giving ceremonywas organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with NCHD and UNESCO. 40 best teachers from all over the country received cash prizes of Rs.30,000 each, a gold medal/certificates in this ceremony which was held at the National Library Auditorium. The Prime Minister of Pakistan graced the occasion with his presence.
A National social Dialogue was organized by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), Lahore in collaboration with UNESCO Islamabad on 6th October, 2006. The social dialogue was attended by policy makers as well as teachers from all over the country. The key issues discussed were;
(i) poor quality of education,
(ii) continuous professional development;
(iii) emergence of ICT for teaching-learning process;
(iv) licensing and accreditation of teacher education institutions, etc.
