A solidarity walk was organized by UNESCO in collaboration with Special Talent Exchange Programme (STEP), Islamabad at Hotel Serena, Islamabad. The Theme of the Walk was "The World We Want - Post 2015 MDG Strategy - The Voices of the Persons with Disabilities". Mr. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Human Rights was the Chief Guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Kozue Kay Nagata, Director/Representative, UNESCO Islamabad said that we are here today to listen to the voices of disabled people about the world which we want after 2015. Dr. Nagata proposed to start discussions on the Post MDG Strategies and she highlighted the topics: Inclusive Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Accessibility, disparity within Communities of persons with Disabilities, Culture of Peace and Impact of Climate Change, and above all economic empowerment of PWDs. She further added that the National Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism on implementation of CRPD and Shadow Reporting mechanism of CSOs need to be established.
Chief Guest Mr. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar Adviser to Prime Minister for Human Rights, in his address assured government's full support to the cause of human rights of persons with disabilities and offered his services to sit together to make a strategy on how to address the issues pertaining to implementation of UN CRPD in Pakistan.
