Awareness Raising Walk on International Literacy Day 2013, Islamabad

An awareness walk was organized by National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), Islamabad, in collaboration with UNESCO Islamabad from China Chowk to D-Chowk, Islamabad.

Bangash, the Chairman Standing Committee on Education graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Secretary, Ministry of Education, Training and Standards on Higher Education (Mr. Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri), Mr. Amir Khushro, Director General NCHD, Mr. Sajid Baloch, Director General, BECS also joined the walk which was attended by a large number of representatives of NGOs, Teachers' Unions, teachers, educationists, school children, and representatives of civil society organizations. They also carried banners and placards highlighting the importance of Literacy. The participants were raising slogans in support of providing literacy to every child.

We want to see a literate Pakistan, said by the Chief Guest, Mr. Bangash. He also re-iterated Government's commitment by making all out efforts to achieve set targets of EFA and MDGs. This walk was a part of about 21 events which UNESCO supported all over the country for observance of this International Literacy Day, which is being celebrated since 1966.
