International Literacy Day 2013, Rahim Yar Khan

Rahim Yar Khan - 11 Sept 2013: a ceremony to celebrate International Literacy day was held at (Basti Jam Mureed) Tehsil Khan Pur. At the ceremony all welcomed the chief guests, Ch. Abdul Aziz and Ghulam Rasool from the education department,
warmly. The function commenced with the National Anthem being recited by students from a private school. Following that students from the NFBE education center recited numerous poems and in the end Allama Iqbal's poem "Lab-pe-aati hai dua" was performed by a group of them.

After the performances by the students, Mr. Muhammad Shaan gave a speech on the importance of education and Miss Hijab gave a speech on the importance of female literacy in which they both emphasized the importance of education for all. Directly after this Ch. Abdul Aziz was welcomed on to the stage to speak about the importance of this day. He conveyed that fact this day was first celebrated on September 8th, 1996 and spoke about how literacy and education improves life, pointing out that knowledge is indeed power. During his speech he also praised the Bunyad Literary Community Council's efforts towards propagating education and indicated that they should continue to work together with the department of education. Following this, the representative of the Bunyad Literary Community Council, Chudhary Shahzad, was welcomed on to the stage. He also shared his views on education, stating that more than 70% of Pakistani's are still uneducated. His speech emphasized the role of the community and parents in achieving the targets and objectives set for education and underlined the fact that for the development of Pakistan, education for all is a necessity.

The ceremony concluded with the honorable guests being invited onto the stage, where they distributed prizes amongst the students, and all the attendees left the ceremony enlightened about the importance of International Literacy day and the need to work for a literate Pakistan.
