UNESCO Promotes Knowledge Through Science Fair

Islamabad - 27 March 2013: A 4-day Pak-China Business Forum 2013 was organized in the capital by the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) from 23rd to 26th March 2013. UNESCO Islamabad,
as the lead UN agency responsible to advocate and promote scientific knowledge and innovations, took part in the event mainly to exhibit and present its key contributions to the field of science and technology in Pakistan.

The business forum was organized on the academia driven model of business cooperation to provide a platform for interaction between Chinese and Pakistani entrepreneurs and businessmen and to provide opportunities for technology transfer. The convention this year focused on the advancement of technologies related to renewable energy, information communication technology, water conservation and biomedical research.

The Science Unit of UNESCO Pakistan arranged an informative stall highlighting its contributions to promoting science and technology in the country. The UNESCO team was available for interactions with the visitors. The team also presented, discussed and distributed materials on UNESCO's key on-going activities in the field of, e.g., integrated flood management information system, flood forecasting and remote sensing, water conservation techniques, disaster risk management and disaster master games. The convention and the exhibition informed the visitors about the significance, adoption and promotion of science as the precursor of collective well-being, and for the attainment of national and Millennium Development Goals.
