UNESCO and Pakistan Science Foundation organized Sixth SACAM Network Meeting in Islamabad

Islamabad - 5 December 2014: UNESCO Islamabad in collaboration with Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) organized, sixth meeting of the South and Central Asia Man and Biosphere Network (SACAM) on Impact of Climate Change on Natural
Ecosystems.

The meeting aimed at enhancing the sharing of knowledge sharing and best practices to address issues related to the impact of climate change on weather, economies, agriculture, wetlands, biodiversity, natural resources and ecosystems.

The meeting was attended by officials of the Ministry for Science and Technology, PSF and representatives of United Nations and member states including Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Iran, Nepal, and Sri Lanka along with leading Pakistani conservationists, scientists and environmentalists.

In the three day meeting, participants emphasized on strengthening collaboration among scientists and government officials for tackling climate change issues and its adverse impacts through sharing their experiences particularly in relation to harmonization of community livelihoods with biodiversity conservation, new trends in biosphere reserves and their future plans. The meeting also included a networking session and group discussions for strengthening the SACAM network.
