UNESCO, Pakistan Science Foundation and ECO Science Foundation commemorate the World Science Day under the theme 'Science for a Sustainable Development'

Islamabad - 11 November 2015: UNESCO Islamabad together with Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) jointly organized an event on the occasion of World Science Day 2015 at the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) headquarters in Islamabad. The theme for this years' was 'Science for a Sustainable Development'. The meeting aimed to create awareness on the importance of WSD and to encourage students towards scientific education and research and to provide them with a platform to share ideas between the scientists and students.

The meeting was attended by officials and representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, PSF, ECOSF, UNESCO, and academia and research institutions in Pakistan.

On the occasion of World Science Day, various awareness raising activities supported by ECO Science Foundation have also been organized by the PSF Science Caravans across the country.

At the end of the event, PSF Gold Medals, certificates and cash prizes co-sponsored by PSF and ECOSF were distributed among the winner students of Inter-Board Competitions.

World Science Day was first declared by UNESCO in 2001 and since than it is celebrated worldwide on 10th of November each year. It offers an opportunity to demonstrate to the wider public why science is relevant to their daily lives and to engage them in debate on related issues. Every year, intergovernmental land non-governmental organizations, scientific research institutions, professional associations, universities, municipalities, the media, science teachers, schools and others are encouraged to organize their own celebration of World Science Day.
