World Science Day 2012 Celebrated in Pakistan

Islamabad - 14 November 2012: UNESCO celebrated the World Science Day 2012 at COMSTECH in the presence of eminent scientists, researchers, educationists, policy makers and students. An impressive event was organized with the theme "Science for Global Sustainability Interconnectedness, Collaboration, and Transformation", in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), and Pakistan Science Foundation.

On the occasion, Dr. Kozue Kay Nagata, Director UNESCO Islamabad said that "For a sustainable future, we must have to build inclusive and equitable knowledge societies".

Taking the opportunity, the Federal Minister of MoST, Mir Changez Khan Jamali strongly recommended increasing the national budget for Science from 0.6% to 1% of GDP by year 2015, and further taking it up to 2% by 2020. It was also shared that the national science and technology policy of Pakistan will be officially launched in the next few weeks. It is worth mentioning that the global celebration of the "World Science Day for Peace and Development" was initiated on the recommendations of Dr. Ishfaq Ahmed - a prominent scientist from Pakistan, and the Guest of Honor at this event.
