|Peshawar March 19, 2013, as one of the key activities pertaining to the "Social Cohesion and Peace Building Programme for the Refugee Affected and Hosting Areas (RAHA)", UNESCO Islamabad is providing technical support to educational institutions|
and learning centers for capacity upgrading. The programme is being implemented in the union councils adjacent to Peshawar-Torkhem Expressway.
Recognizing the importance of the role of Parent Teacher Councils, effective use of school development funds, increasing enrollment, reducing dropout, and ensuring quality of teaching, UNESCO in collaboration with Provincial Institute of Teachers Education (PITE) Peshawar, is organizing series of workshops on "Reactivation of Parent Teacher Councils" of Sufaid Dheri and Malkandher Union Councils, and FR- Peshawar area.
These workshops aim to train over 120 PTC members to revitalize PTC's role for increasing school enrolment, addressing educational challenges and improving quality of teaching-learning conditions in schools. The workshops organized so far were perceived as first of its kind and actively participated by members of number of Parent Teacher Councils. They were expected to help sensitize and develop larger ownership of community regarding importance of education in their areas.
