Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched Phase 2 of the Suthra Punjab Program, a bold initiative aimed at turning waste into a valuable resource. This new phase focuses on using modern recycling methods to transform polluted landfill sites into clean energy hubs, starting with Lakhodare landfill near Lahore.
The project plans to convert the Lakhodare site into a biogas and carbon credit facility, expected to produce 20 tons of biogas daily. Through carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, the site could generate over Rs. 1 billion annually, making it a major breakthrough in eco-friendly energy production.
