Pakistan is set to step into a new era of smart transport with the upcoming launch of its first trackless, ticket-free, and solar-operated metro system in Lahore. This revolutionary system, known as Super Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (SRT), is described as a “metro on wheels“—offering a modern, environmentally friendly solution for urban dynamics without the need for traditional railway infrastructure.
The first performance of the SRT system has already arrived in Lahore and is currently being tested near Lahore Airport. The vehicle operates using virtual track techniques, advanced sensors, GPS, and digital mapping, allowing it to move smoothly on pre-defined urban routes—without the need for physical tracks or human drivers.

Unlike traditional metro projects, which demand a heavy budget and years of construction, SRT is cost-effective, very fast to fully power and apply. It is an ideal mass transit option for densely populated areas such as Lahore, where traffic congestion has long been a problem.
The SRT system becomes even more impressive considering it is already being used successfully in countries such as China, Malaysia, Türkiye, and UAE. Now, Pakistan has joined the list of nations moving towards permanent and infrastructure-free transportation solutions.
If the pilot phase is successful, this system can be expanded to other major cities across the country—bringing cleaner, clever, and more economical public transport.
The project marks a significant leap for the urban development of Lahore, aligning with global trends and environmental needs. Citizens are ready to experience a quiet, cleaner, and trouble-free travel in the near future.
