In a move to promote clean energy and support students, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new scheme to provide free electric bikes (EV bikes) to top-performing students across Pakistan. The initiative is designed to make transportation more affordable for youth while helping the country shift toward eco-friendly vehicles.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of electric mobility for Pakistan’s future. By encouraging the use of electric vehicles, the government aims to save billions in fuel imports, reduce environmental pollution, and boost local EV manufacturing.
Who Will Get Free EV Bikes?
The scheme will benefit outstanding students from all educational boards, including the Federal Board. Students who achieve top results in their exams will be selected to receive free electric bikes.

To ensure fairness, a special 25% quota will be reserved for female students, while quotas for each province will be based on population ratios. The Prime Minister has also directed that Balochistan’s quota be increased to 10% to ensure balanced representation.
Support for Workers and Job Creation
Beyond students, the government plans to offer electric rickshaws and loaders on soft loans to unemployed individuals. This will not only create jobs but also reduce dependence on petrol-based vehicles. The Prime Minister stressed that all EVs provided under the scheme must meet strict quality and safety standards.
Additionally, four new battery manufacturing companies are expected to launch operations in Pakistan, creating fresh opportunities for investment and employment.
How the Scheme Will Work
-
Free EV bikes for top-performing students nationwide.
-
Soft loans for rickshaws and loaders to support small businesses.
-
Third-party monitoring to ensure transparency in distribution.
-
Public awareness campaigns to inform people about the program.
The government plans to distribute over 100,000 electric bikes and thousands of rickshaws and loaders, making eco-friendly transport more accessible for citizens.
This initiative not only rewards students for their hard work but also supports Pakistan’s transition to sustainable energy, helping reduce costs for families while creating jobs and new business opportunities.
